I locked my keys in the trunk of the Forte....with my wallet and jacket. I am at a nice tech campus in Vancouver. Seems like a university rather than an office development.
AMA, tow truck is possibly 2 hours out.
Maybe I can ask to play with a switch?

As stupid as it sounds, that’s why I carry two keys to my car (I’ve only ever locked myself out once FYI), but I use one key by itself to get in and drive and the like and carry a spare on the keyring on my belt loop just in case to let me in if I need to!
Sorry to hear of your troubles! :(

Instead of a tow, call a locksmith like Pop-a-Lock. I locked my keys in my truck. Pop-a-lock only cost me $35 to come out and pick the lock.

All those engineers out there and the vehicle wins again.

Use a coat hanger and try to unlock it?
Brick/rock through a window perhaps? Yes I know you probably don’t want to do that but it’s quicker than waiting for a tow truck

Might get lucky enough. The tow yard near me charges a flat 50 for a lockout. Consider what most other companies charge, it’s a good deal. Like that time someone quoted me 50, so I waited, then the guy that showed up 90 minutes later and said 125. Fucker.

I did that once - someone needed a jump, and when I shut the trunk lid, I realized I had the jumper cables but no keys.
It was the same car that I once locked myself out of while it was running. Must have been bad luck.

I closed the trunk lid of a friend’s car when we were out back in college locking his keys in the trunk and stranding him, me and two other friends. I never have lived that down...

I locked my keys twice , once when I was still in university. Luckily I had GMPP so it was covered. Second time was in our shared Miata NA. Tried the coat hanger trick, didn’t work, so I unzipped the top and crawled in instead.

It’s a Kia why not pop the trunk with a crow bar. Then it will be like the other Kia’s in the city.

CAA is well worth every penny.
If it makes you feel better, I recently ended up with TWO sets of keys locked in the same car, thanks to my wife deciding she didn’t want to carry her keys and me setting my keys down in the trunk so I could rearrange things.

Make a surf key, cable-tie it underneath in case of emergency.. any key shop should be able to cut one for you. Handy if you surf/swim/paddle- it won’t start chipped vehicles but it will open the doors.

I mean... I still own it. I gotta sell it for something better at some point

have roadside assistance via Kia. I did exactly what you did. Popped them on a box in my trunk and absent mindedly shut it

In the olden days when cars were metal, you could get these magnetic boxes to hide in a wheel well, and keep a spare key. My mom used to do that back in the day.
Keyless-Go in a MB won’t let you lock the key in the trunk, I’d have done it a few times by now.

Yeah the Fiesta ST and CX-3 won’t allow it. Which fucks me over when the Kia, which has all the features of a 1980's GM sedan, lets me do whatever stupid thing I want.

The lack of feel/feedback/enjoyment of modern vehicles coupled with the lack of modern features of an older vehicle.
I think the ideal Jalop car is the opposite of the Kia. But at least it has a manual.

Can you also leave your headlights on all night so you need to jump start it in the morning? That was my favorite hobby in high school.

luckily, no. But no auto headlights.

I think the worst part is the 10 seconds before you shut the trunk play on endless loop in your mind
until the locksmith shows up.

I’ve been there, so to speak. The keys fell out of my pocket as I got out of the(now the race) car in the high school parking lot. As soon as I stood up I knew my pocket didn’t feel complete. I looked back in the car to see my keys sitting on the driver’s seat inside the locked car mocking me. Neither myself nor most of my friends has cell phones yet, so I had to use a phone in the school office to call my Mom and have her open the car with an extra key at lunch, which might be the epitome of embarrassment for a fifteen year old.

I remember being late to school once because of this - my sister’s friend came over to pick us up for school. Parked across the end of the driveway, blocking the entire exit. Got out, with the keys in the car and running, locked the doors and came in to get us. To this day when I get out of a running car I look back where the keys go to make sure I didn’t leave them in the ignition. To be fair, I have abs olutely locked my keys in the car since then, but NOT with them in the ignition :)

luckily (?) my keys were in the trunk and the car wasn’t running. I did however, lock my wallet, jacket and man bag in the trunk so literally had nothing other than my two phones on me.
Good thing it isn’t chilly out yet.

Actually, now that I think about it the car that was left running was pretty jalop - it was an early 80's Nissan Maxima diesel (only 50/50 on if it was Nissan or Datsun...) . Have not thought about that car for a while, but I remember thinking it was cool since the only other diesels I knew of at the time were trucks or tractors.
